Recharge

Is there a place you go to feel recharged? Mine is, always has been and will always be, the water. Not a lake, always the ocean.

Growing up we spent our summers about our family boat. Early on in my Dad’s life he was a commercial fisherman and traveled with his father aboard the ‘Janet V’ (named after my late-aunt Janet). Following some particularly treacherous fishing endeavours my Dad retired from commercial fishing but his love for the water (and fishing) carried on. Thus, as a child much of my summers were spent at sea.

In my dreams I imagined I would raise my kids to be sea-faring adventurers of the west coast, but truthfully I knew that to be a rather lofty vision. Yet here we are, spending weeks on end aboard our ship every summer. Every trip never seems quite long enough! I’m not sure what it was that really sparked us to commit to ‘Oh Ship’, but I am grateful every day that we have that outlet, that eternal connection to the sea to continue to pass on through generations.
